Fintech in the Nordics and Baltics

At FintechValley we are always keen to present you new Fintech companies, selected by industry or also by country. Fintech startups and companies can nowadays be found around the globe. In this article we would like to present you some Fintechs in Northern Europe, in specific in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Sweden and Norway. This is just a first part, more companies from this region will be presented soon.


Coinify is Danish company headquartered in Copenhague. They provide services for businesses to accept payments in 17 digital currencies including Bitcoin, and the option for anyone to buy and sell bitcoin. They are active in Europe but also specially throughout Southeast Asia where they entered various partnerships with payment service providers for bitcoin. You can find more information about them and their services under

Moving a bit further up north, we can find the Estonian company Bondora that is a consumer loans peer-to-peer platform based in Tallinn. According to their website, they have € 1.2 billion processed loan applications. To find out more about them, please check their website

Pocopay is another Tallinn based Fintech company in Estonia. It is a mobile banking service app that was launched beginning of 2016 in Spain, Netherlands, Estonia and Finland with more countries to come soon. The app allows you to send and receive money and handle your daily banking needs. Further information about them and the app can be found at

Another Fintech startup offering a “digital current account for your business” is the Finnish company Holvi (meaning “vault” in Finnish). Only in March this year, the company was bought by the Spanish bank BBVA. According to their official website, so far their service is available for customers in Germany, Austria and Finland. For further details about Holvi, please check is also a Finnish company that is based in Helsinki. Founded in 2010, the Helsinki-based company Zervant is providing small businesses with a  software that allows them to create and manage invoices online in an easy way and thus helps to reduce paperwork. Looking at the Fintech industry in Sweden, we can find 2 Bitcoin companies and a payment POS service company.

The Swedish Bitcoin company Bitrefill is offering a service that allows you to top up a prepaid mobile phone by paying with bitcoins. According to their website, the service is available for over 600 operators in 143 countries. A list of the countries and further information can be found at

The second Bitcoin company we have found in Sweden is safello that was founded in 2013 and is based in Stockholm. It is a platform for buying and selling Bitcoins, as stated on their website,  they support 32 countries in Europe with direct payments and other payments.

iZettle is the third Swedish Fintech company we would like to present you. They offer an app an a chip card reader that allows small businesses to manage their payments. The head office is based in Stockholm but they have offices in London, Madrid, Berlin as well as in Mexico City and São Paolo where they also offer their service. Moving further to Norway, we can find 3 Fintech companies.

Zwipe “is a high tech Fingerprint Authentication company , developing, producing and marketing technology that, through the analysis and matching of an individual’s unique fingerprint, verify the person’s identity.” They have launched the so-called “Zwipe MasterCard” which is a fingerprint-activated contactless payment card. MeaWallet, headquartered in Norway with an office in Latvia, is a service provider for contactless payments. They offer cloud based mobile payments using the MeaWallet Mobile Services Platform and as well as a White-labeled wallet for card issuers who want to offer their own mobile wallet solution in the market. Launched in March 2014, mcash is another Norwegian Fintech company that are providing a mobile service that allows you to make and receive payments using your mobile phone. The service seems to be available in several countries, among them India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Singapore. The website is only available in Norwegian language, though.
